The Oakland Athletics hope to even their series with the Cleveland Indians in a Saturday tilt.
The Oakland Athletics seemed to be poised to make a run at the top of the American League West but they are playing around .500 baseball the past few weeks and that won’t be good enough. The Athletics took another step back in in the wrong direction in Friday’s 5-1 loss at Progressive Field. Starter Kendall Graveman fell to 6-5 with four runs given up on seven hits and a trio of BB over 5.2 innings. The A’s logged five hits with a Billy Butler sacrifice fly scoring Billy Burns. Chris Bassitt gets his third start of the season and first ever against the Indians on Saturday. Bassitt is coming off of consecutive 2-1 defeats where he has allowed three runs on ten hits in 10.2 frames.

If the Cleveland Indians are to make a run in the American League Central now is the time. The Indians have been red hot with Friday’s win giving them eight victories in eleven contests. Starter Danny Salazar was outstanding with an unearned run plated on five hits through 8.2 innings to up his record to 8-4 while whiffing eight. The Tribe produced eight hits and walked six times with Michael Brantley driving in two runs with Jason Kipnis driving in a run and scoring. Carlos Carrasco toes the rubber for the first time ever against the Athletics. Carrasco was hit hard last time out in a 9-4 loss to Houston with five runs given up on ten hits over four innings.
Oakland are 7-2 in their last 9 road games and the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 road games while the Athletics are 4-11 in their last 15 Saturday games. The under is 8-2 in Cleveland’s last 10 on grass and the Indians are 8-3 in their last 11 overall while the over is 7-1 in Carrasco’s last 8 home starts. I favor Cleveland but the chalk scares me…
