The San Francisco Giants have been struggling but they took out their frustrations on Saturday as they pounded the Phillies. Joe Panik and Hunter Pence each hit home runs and Matt Duffy and Justin Maxwell had four hits each as the Giants scored 15 runs on 22 hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 9-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Giants start Ryan Vogelsong who has allowed 85 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 65 over 90 innings for a 6-6 record and a 4.10 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies took another bad loss as they were crushed by the Giants on Friday. Carlos Ruiz had three hits including a home run and Ben Revere and Domonic Brown each had two hits as the Phillies scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels allowed 12 hits and nine runs while striking out four over 3.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-7 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Phillies start David Buchanon who has allowed 32 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 12 over 24.2 innings for a 0-5 record and a 8.76 ERA.

San Francisco is 7-13 in their last 20 home games, 18-5 in game two of a series, and 7-2 in Vogelsong’s last nine home starts. Philadelphia is 15-37 in their last 52 games, 14-43 in their last 57 road games, and 6-18 in Buchanon’s last 24 starts. Philadelphia is 1-5 in the last six meetings of these two.

The Giants are a big favorite but it is warranted as they should blast the Phillies here.
