The Texas Rangers and the San Diego Padres close out their interleague series as they face off on Sunday in Arlington.
The Texas Rangers appeared headed to a win on Saturday but they let the lead slip away in the ninth inning and took the loss. Mitch Moreland hit two home runs, Robinson Chinros had two hits, and Prince Fielder had a hit as the Rangers scored five runs and seven hits. Starting pitcher Colby Lewis allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Shawn Tolleson took the loss to fall to 2-2 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Yovani Gallardo who has allowed 93 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 76 over 107.2 innings for a 7-7 record and a 2.67 ERA.

The San Diego Padres never gave in on Saturday and snagged a win in Texas. Yangervis Solarte and Matt Kemp each hit home runs and Justin Upton added a hit as the Padres scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed five hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings to not get a decision as Joaquin Benoit earned the win to go to 6-4 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 22nd save. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who has allowed 97 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 112 over 103.2 innings for a 5-7 record and a 3.56 ERA.
Texas is 7-3 in their last 10 interleague home games, 2-7 in their last nine interleague games against a team with a losing record, and 4-1 in Gallardo’s last five home starts. San Diego is 3-13 against a right-handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight interleague games, and 2-5 in Ross’ last seven starts as an underdog. San Diego is 1-4 in their last five games against Texas.
The total is set at 8.5 and I see the pitchers controlling this one and my free pick is the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
