The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox clash in the third game of their series in Saturday action.
The Kansas City Royals are threatening to pull away in the American League Central in what has proven to be a competitive division. The Royals dropped game two of their doubleheader 2-0 to split the twin bill but have still won nine of 12. Edinson Volquez was a tough luck loser with both runs plated on eight hits and two BB over 6.1 innings of work. The offense produced just four hits and walked four times with Alcides Escobar singling a walking two times. Jeremy Guthrie squares off with the White Sox for the first time on the year. Guthrie defeated Tampa Bay 9-7 with four runs allowed (three earned) on eight hits and four BB in six frames.

The Chicago White Sox might be at the bottom of the American League Central but they are not out of the postseason conversation. With the split of their doubleheader the White Sox have won five of seven. Great work on the mound was the key with lefty John Danks tossing a gem with four hits and four BB given up to get the win. The bats managed nine hits and three bases on balls with Tyler Flowers knocking in a run while Melky Cabrera and Avisail Garcia scored. Jose Quintana hopes to avoid his third straight loss when he opposes Kansas City Saturday. Quintana fell to the Cubs 3-1 last time out with all three runs scored on eight hits while striking out nine over 7.1 innings.
The under is 8-1-2 in Kansas City’s last 11 Saturday games while the Royals are 8-1 in their last 9 overall and 8-1 in their last 9 games on grass. The under is 5-2-1 in the White Sox last 8 Saturday games while the White Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 overall. The under is 11-3 in Guthrie’s last 14 starts vs. the White Sox and Kansas City are 16-5 in the last 21 meetings. I’m not a big Guthrie fan and Quintana is the better pitcher but doesn’t get help for some reason…
