The Oakland A’s and the Minnesota Twins face off on Saturday in Oakland for game two of their MLB series.
The Oakland A’s just couldn’t put runs on the board on Friday as they fell to the Twins. Ben Zobrist, Stephen Vogt, and Brett Lawrie each had hits as the Athletics didn’t score on five hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed five hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 10-4 for the season. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Scott Kazmir who has allowed 79 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 96 over 101.1 innings for a 5-5 record and a 2.49 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins started off Friday’s game with a blast and never looked back winning game one of their series in Oakland. Brian Dozier led off with a home run, Trevor Plouffe hit a home run, and Torii Hunter had two hits as the Twins scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed five hits and struck out one over 7.2 scoreless innings to get his first win of the year. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Phil Hughes who has allowed 135 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 70 over 116.2 innings for an 8-6 record and a 4.32 ERA.
Oakland is 7-22 in their last 29 home games against a team with a road record, 1-6 in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, and 2-5 in Kazmir’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Minnesota is 7-1 in their last eight games, 28-13 against a team with a losing record, and 6-0 in Hughes’ last six starts. Minnesota is 2-9 in their last 11 games in Oakland.
Oakland is just not a very good home team and Hughes has come up big in spots and I expect the Twins to win here.
