The New York Yankees conclude their series with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
The Seattle Mariners are in a position where they need to win series to have a chance in the American League West. The Mariners prevented a three game skid with a 4-3 win at New York Saturday behind strong pitching and some clutch hitting. Hisashi Iwakuma gave up both runs on five hits over 5.2 frames with five relievers finishing the job despite the efforts of closer Carson Smith who almost blew the game. The M’s logged seven hits and three BB with Robinson Cano slamming a two run homer in the first and a two run shot in the 6th. The Mariners send ace Felix Hernandez to the mound to face the Yankees for the second time in 2015. Hernandez comes off of a 7-2 win versus the Angels with a five hit shutout over seven frames.

The New York Yankees appear to be heating up once again but need to stay hot in a bunched up American League East. The Yankees have still won seven of eleven after Saturday’s defeat but can’t afford to string losses together. Starter Michael Pineda did not have his best stuff with all four runs allowed on six hits including a pair of two run bombs which dropped his record to 9-6. The Bronx Bombers seven hit attack fell just short with Brian McCann giving his team a chance with a two run jack while Mark Texeira went 2-4 with a pair of runs. Veteran left hander CC Sabathia takes the hill against the visiting Mariners in Sunday action. Sabathia comes off of a 5-4 win versus the Athletics with a pair of runs plated on seven hits over 5.1 innings.
The under is 8-1-1 in Seattle’s last 10 road games and they are 1-7 in their last 8 Sunday games while the over is 6-2 in the Mariners last 8 overall. The under is 6-2-2 in New York’s last 10 Sunday games while the Yankees are 6-2 in their last 8 home games and the over is 24-8-1 in Sabathia’s last 33 Sunday starts. The Yankees are 10-1 in Sabathia’s last 11 starts vs. Seattle and the under is 19-7-2 in the last 28 meetings. Sabathia has had great success against Seattle because the Mariners can’t hit lefties and really can’t hit anything. Maybe King Felix tosses a shutout and the M’s have a shot…
