The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for another road win against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
The last thing the Pittsburgh Pirates need is a losing streak as they try to track down the St Louis Cardinals. The Pirates snapped a three game slide with a 10-7 win at Kansas City on Monday. The night belonged to the offense with starter AJ Burnett charged with six runs on eleven hits over six frames which was still a winning effort. The Buccos racked up 17 hits with Travis Ishikawa going 3-5 with a homer and four RBI’s while Neil Walker tripled in two and Pedro Alvarez drove in two more. The Pirates send out ace Gerrit Cole to oppose Kansas City for the first time in his career. Cole is 2-0 with a no decision over his last three outings where he allowed a combined seven runs over 21.2 innings.

Starter Yordano Ventura was charged with six runs on ten hits through four frames with Kris Medlen allowing four runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. KC logged 14 hits and walked twice with Kendrys Morales connecting on a three run bomb while Mike Moustakas left the yard and drove in a pair with Eric Hosmer scoring twice. Jason Vargas toes the rubber against visiting Pittsburgh who he has never faced. Vargas is coming off the disabled list and is 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA over eight starts on the season.
Pittsburgh are 2-9 in their last 11 road games and are 8-0 in Cole’s last 8 interleague starts and 37-14 in Cole’s last 51 starts. The Royals came from behind Monday and made Pittsburgh sweat behind a potent offense. The key Tuesday will be doing the same thing against one of the best hurlers in the game…
