The New York Yankees look to stay hot when they visit Target Field to face the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
I’ll be willing to bet the New York Yankees are not hearing how ‘old’ they are and I suspect sitting atop the American League East has something to do with it. The Bronx Bombers stayed on roll in a 9-3 rout of Baltimore where the arms and bats were on the same page for their 9th win in eleven contests. Masahiro Tanaka allowed all three runs on solo homers over 7.2 frames to get the win. The Yanks logged 13 hits and walked three times with Jacoby Ellsbury going 3-4 with a homer and four RBI’s and two runs while Chase Headley went 3-4 with a pair of runs and three more RBI’s. Right hander Michael Pineda is slated to be on the bump on Friday to oppose Minnesota. Pineda took a 4-3 loss to Seattle last time out with all four runs plated on six hits including two homers in six frames.

The Minnesota Twins are a great story as most experts could not have guessed they would be in second in the American League Central. The Twins were suffering through a four game skid before knocking off the Angels 3-0 on the road Thursday. Starter Ervin Santana was dominant with four hits allowed with seven strikeouts over eight scoreless innings. The offense logged five hits and walked three times with Trevor Plouffe cracking a three run bomb in the 4th that scored Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano. Phil Hughes toes the rubber in Friday’s series opener against the visiting Yankees on Friday. Hughes was outstanding in a 3-2 defeat at Oakland in his last outing with a solo jack surrendered in seven innings.
The under is 16-4-1 in New York’s last 21 overall and is 16-4-1 in their last 21 on grass while the over is 8-3 in Yankees last 11 Friday games. Minnesota are 7-1 in their last 88 home games. The Yankees are 40-14 in the last 54 meetings. The Yankees have done well in this match up but I would rather take the home dog or sit out…
