The Philadelphia Phillies battle the Chicago Cubs in Saturday action at Wrigley Field.
The Philadelphia Phillies have suddenly turned it on and the fans are wondering how long the good times will last. It will last at least another day after the Phillies defeated Chicago 5-3 in ten innings. Jerome Williams gave up three runs on six hits over six frames with three relievers putting up zeros. Jeff Francoeur cracked a two run bomb in the 10th to win it while Cody Asche went 2-3 with three RBI’s with Freddy Galvis scoring twice. Left hander Cole Hamels draws the start against the Cubs in the second game of their series. Hamels has struggled the past two times out with 14 earned runs on 20 hits over 6.1 frames.

The Chicago Cubs might be playing better then we’ve seen in years but they have to continue to perform or risk missing out on the postseason. The Cubs took a step back with Friday’s defeat as they blew a 9th inning lead. Jon Lester allowed two runs through seven innings before Jason Motte allowed a 9th inning run to blow the save while Rafael Soriano served up a 10th inning homer to absorb the loss. The Cubbies posted nine hits and walked three times with Chris Coughlan going deep and driving in two with Kris Bryant going solo. The Cubs turn to Jake Arrieta for the game two of the series with visiting Philadelphia. Arrieta has been rolling with five runs allowed over his six outings which includes a pair of shutouts.
Philadelphia are 12-40 in their last 52 road games with under going 6-2-1 in their last 9 games as an underdog while the Phillies are 8-3 in their last 11 overall. Chicago are 7-2 in their last 9 Saturday games while the under is 18-7-1 in their last 26 home games and is 7-2-1 in Arrieta’s last 10 home starts. The under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings while Philadelphia are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Chicago. I think this is too much juice to lay for the Cubs to be honest…
