The Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox take the field at Fenway Park on Sunday Night Baseball.
The Detroit Tigers have had a difficult time stringing wins together the last few weeks and despite a 5-1 victory at Boston Saturday the team has still dropped seven of eleven. Starter Alfredo Simon broke out of his slump with the lone run plated on five hits and a pair of free passes over six frames. The offense did not waste the effort with a nine hit, three walk attack that saw Nick Catsellanos go deep and drive in three with Yoenis Cespedes going solo. The Tigers will send Shane Green to the mound in the final game of the series at Fenway Park on Sunday. Green has struggled the past six times out with 32 runs scored on 34 hits and nine BB over 21 innings.

The Boston Red Sox snapped an eight game skid with a win on Friday but couldn’t build on the momentum. The work on the mound and at the plate both struggled with starter Steven Wright charged with four runs on five hits and a pair of bases on balls through five innings of work. The offense couldn’t stay competitive on just six hits and a trio of walks. Mookie Betts singled in Blake Swihart with the only run while the big hit never materialized when Boston left the bases loaded in the third.Rookie left hander Eduardo Rodriguez toes the rubber against Detroit for the first time in his career. Rodriguez was hammered in an 11-1 loss to the Angels last time out where he allowed seven runs on six hits in just 1.2 frames.
The over is 22-4 in Detroit’s last 26 games as an underdog and is 14-3 in their last 17 road games while going 25-6 in the Tigers last 31 overall. Boston are 1-8 in their last 9 overall while the Red Sox are 1-8 in their last 9 games on grass and are 6-2 in their last 8 home games. Detroit are 15-36 in their last 51 meetings in Boston. I lean Boston here but I don’t have any faith in what is an overrated team…
