The Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels in a battle for first in the AL West.
The Los Angeles Angels own a small lead in the American League West and have to avoid any slowdown with the Astros breathing down their neck. The Angels ended a three game skid with a 13-7 victory against surging Texas on Sunday. Andrew Heaney upped his record to 5-0 with two runs scored over six fames before Trevor Gott and Huston Street gave up five more. The offense pounded out 15 hits and walked four times with Mike Trout slugging a pair of bombs and knocking in five while CJ Cron went solo. Kole Calhoun, Erick Aybar and Daniel Robinson each drove in two runs as every starter had an RBI or scored. Veteran left hander CJ Wilson draws the start in the series opener at Minute Maid Park. Wilson comes off of a 5-2 win at Minnesota where he allowed both runs on six hits over five frames.

The Houston Astros are just two games behind the Angels for the lead in the American League West so losing streaks of any length can be costly. The Astros have dropped back to back contests after a 5-1 loss at Kansas City on Sunday. Starter Dallas Keuchel was hit hard with all five runs plated on ten hits through 6.2 fames to fall to 12-5.That was too much for the offense to handle on their six hit attack that saw Colby Rasmus rap and RBI single that scored Evan Gattis in the second for a 1-0 lead. Collin McHugh will be on the mound to oppose the visiting Angels for the third time this year. McHugh defeated the Red Sox last time out 4-2 with both runs plated on seven hits in seven innings.
The Angels are 7-2 in their last 9 road games and the over is 7-2 in their last 9 road games while Los Angeles are 19-7 in their last 26 overall. Houston are 2-6 in their last 8 games following a loss and are 35-17 in their last 52 home games while going 8-1 in McHugh’s last 9 Tuesday starts. The under is 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings. McHugh tends to give up hits at times which is dangerous but has fared well in this match up…
