The St Louis Cardinals shoot for a win against the rival Cincinnati Reds in Wednesday action.
The Cincinnati Reds have obviously given up on winning the National League Central with the trade of Johnny Cueto. The Reds defeated their hated rival St Louis 4-0 on Tuesday behind great pitching and a few clutch hits. Mike Leake did his best Cueto imitation with a four hit shutout over eight innings to get the win. The Reds mustered seven hits and walked twice with Joey Votto going 3-3 with a homer and three RBI’s with a pair of runs while Jay Bruce singled in a run. Cincinnati hands the ball to Antony DeSclafani who opposes the Cardinals for the first time in his career. DeSclafani comes in off of a 6-5 loss at Colorado where he gave up three runs on seven hits in seven frames.

The St Louis Cardinals are just tough to hold down and their performance the past few weeks is typical. Despite Tuesday’s defeat the Cardinals have still won eight of eleven even though a winnable performance on the mound went for naught. Starter Jaime Garcia threw the ball well in his first start off the disabled list with three runs given up on four hits through six innings pitched. The Redbirds managed just four hits and walked one time and seldom threatened. Veteran John Lackey opposes Cincinnati for the second time in 2015 on Wednesday. Lackey has enjoyed a strong season to date with a 9-5 record with a 2.88 ERA covering 20 starts.
St Louis are 7-2 in their last 9 Wedneday games and are 52-16 in their last 68 home games while the Cardinals are 51-17 in their last 68 games as a favorite. Cincinnati are 26-61 in their last 87 road games. The Cardinals don’t lose many and especially at home so I’m inclined to back them…
