The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies face off on Friday at Busch Stadium for game two of their MLB series.
The St. Louis Cardinals appeared to have let Thursday’s game against the Rockies get away from them but they rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning and got the win. Matt Carpenter had four hits including two home runs and Kolten Wong, Jhonny Peralta, and Jason Heyward each had two hits as the Cardinals scored nine runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Carlos Martinez allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Carlos Villenueva got the win to go to 4-3 for the season. For Friday’s game the Cardinals start Michael Wacha who has allowed 103 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 99 over 118.1 innings for an 11-4 record and a 3.27 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies looked to be on their way to an upset against the Cardinals on Thursday but they let it slip away in the bottom of the ninth inning and took a loss. Nick Hundley and Chris Rusin each hit home runs and D.J. LeMahieu had three hits as the Rockies scored eight runs on 16 hits. On the mound Rusin allowed 10 hits and six runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as John Axford took the loss to fall to 3-5 for the season. For Friday’s game the Rockies start Kyle Kendrick who has allowed 137 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 59 over 112.1 innings for a 4-11 record and a 6.33 ERA.
St. Louis is 52-17 as a home favorite, 9-3 in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record, and 16-5 in Wacha’s last 21 starts. Colorado is 25-70 in their last 95 road games, 2-5 in game two of a series, and 4-12 in Kendrick’s last 16 starts. Colorado is 2-7 in their last nine game with St. Louis.
The Cards demoralized the Rockies on Thursday and this one should be a lot worse so St. Louis is my pick here.
