The Minnesota Twins lock horns with the Seattle Mariners in their series rubber match.
The Seattle Mariners appear to be in the mode of spoiler even though they probably hold out hope of winning the American League West. The Mariners suffered a 9th inning meltdown Saturday in a 3-2 defeat at Target Field for their 6th loss in seven contests. Starter Mike Montgomery allowed a run on six hits over six frames before Carson Smith gave up a pair of runs in the 9th to blow the save and take the loss. The M’s mustered six hits with Nelson Cruz connecting on his 28th homer while Robinson Cano drove in Kyle Seager. Hisashi Iwakuma looks to get back in the win column when he takes the bump at Target Field on Sunday. Iwakuma was hit hard in an 8-4 loss to Arizona with six runs plated on ten hits over 5.2 frames.

The Minnesota Twins strong start to 2015 is taking a turn for the worse and has to be reversed. The Twins reversed that trend for a day but have still dropped seven of eleven. Starter Kyle Gibson kept his team in the game with both runs given up on six hits through seven innings of work. The offense managed six hits and walked four times with Miguel Sano scoring the tying run in the 9th on a wild pitch while Kurt Suzuki singled in the winner to keep his team in the lead for the second Wild Card. The Twins send veteran Mike Pelfrey to the mound for the first time against the Mariners in 2015. Pelfrey did not get a decision in an 8-7 loss to the Pirates with three runs allowed in 5.1 innings.
The over is 6-1-1 in Seattle’s last 8 overall and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass while the Mariners are 2-8 in their last 10 Sunday games. The over is 15-6-2 in Minnesota’s last 23 Sunday games while the under is 7-3-2 in Pelfrey’s last 12 on grass and is 7-3-2 in Pelfrey’s last 12 starts overall. Seattle are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings. I favor Seattle with Iwakuma but Pelfrey could crash the party with his occasional gem…
