The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies face off on Sunday at Busch Stadium as the close out their MLB series.
The St. Louis Cardinals won their first two games of their series against the Rockies but on Saturday they were on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Jhonny Peralta hit a home run, Stephen Piscotty had two hits, and Jason Heyward had a hit as the Cardinals scored two runs on eight hits. Start pitcher Lance Lynn allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-6 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cardinals start Jaime Garcia who has allowed 39 hits and 12 runs while striking out 37 over 54 innings for a 3-4 record and a 2.00 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies grabbed the lead early on Saturday and never looked back as they beat the Cardinals. Nolan Arenado and Ben Paulsen each hit home runs and Charlie Blackmon and D.J. Lemahieu each had two hits as the Rockies scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 7-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rockies start Yohan Flande who has allowed 22 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 14 over 22 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.68 ERA.
St. Louis is 54-19 in their last 73 home games, 9-4 in game four of a series, and 2-5 in Garcia’s last seven starts against the NL West. Colorado is 6-1 in game four of a series, 26-70 in their last 96 road games, and 1-4 in Flande’s last five road starts. Colorado is 10-25 in their last 35 games in St. Louis.
The Cards are big favorites here but they are worthy and I look for them to get the win.
