The Houston Astros look to extend their lead in the AL West with a road win versus the Texas Rangers.

The Houston Astros have gotten hot while the Angels have slumped and the result is they lead the American League West. The Astros cooled off for a day following Tuesday’s 4-3 loss at Texas. Starter Daniel Straily gave up all four runs on six hits and a trio of free passes over 4.2 frames to fall to 0-1. The Astros attack consisted of six hits and four walks with Carlos Gomez going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI’s with Luis Valbuena logging two hits and driving in a run. Left hander Scott Kazmir makes his third start with the Astros and 4th of the year against the Rangers. Kazmir has tossed shutouts in four of his last five outings over 34 innings.

Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros - 8/5/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Texas Rangers are right in the middle of the Wild Card race and show no signs of going away. The Rangers hot run continued as they have now won six of seven to keep pace in the Wild Card race. Starter Yovani Gallardo was just good enough with all three runs plated on four hits and a trio of BB through five innings with four relievers putting up zeros. The offense made that effort hold up with a ten hit, three walk attack that featured Prince Fielder’s 16th homer. Delino DeShields Jr. drove in a run and scored while Josh Hamilton and Rougned Odor posted two hits each and drove in a run. Nicholas Martinez draws Wednesday’s start against the visiting Astros for the first time in 2015. Martinez comes in off of a 6-3 win against San Francisco where he allowed two runs in 6.1 frames.

The under is 8-1-1 in Houston’s last 10 road games while the Astrosare 10-3 in their last 13 games as a favorite with Houston going are 10-4 in their last 14 overall. The over is 7-2 in Texas last 9 Wednesday games while the Rangers are 5-12 in Martinez’s last 17 home starts. Houston are 8-22 in the last 30 meetings in Texas and  are 22-50 in the last 72 meetings. Kazmir won’t keep throwing shutouts put hopefully he does enough to get a win here…
