The Miami Marlins travel to Turner Field to open a series with the Atlanta Braves.
The Miami Marlins have struggled to score runs and that has really cost them in 2015. The Marlins fell to the Mets by an 8-6 count on Wednesday with both the arms and bats having problems with four hits until six runs were scored in the 9th for their 9th loss in eleven contests. Starter David Phelps was charged with seven runs on eight hits and a trio of free passes over 4.1 frames to absorb the loss. The Fish were shutout until the final inning when another bullpen implosion almost handed Miami a dramatic win. The Marlins go with rookie Jose Urena on the hill Thursday who opposes Atlanta for the first time. Urena struggled last time out in a 5-3 loss to San Diego with five runs scored on eight hits in five frames.

The Atlanta Braves just don’t have what it takes to challenge in the National League East so the goal is to play respectable baseball. The Braves have dropped back to back contests following a 6-1 defeat to visiting San Francisco on Wednesday. Starter Williams Perez was charged with all six runs (five earned) on ten hits and a pair of bases on balls through six frames. The Bravos logged seven hits with Ryan Lavarnway doubling in Jace Peterson. Rookie Matt Wisler faces the Marlins for the first time in his short career Thursday. Wisler was hit hard in a 12-2 beat down from the Phillies with seven runs allowed on eight hits over 4.2 innings.
The under is 18-7-2 in Miami’s last 27 road games and is 7-3 in their last 10 games as an underdog while the Marlins are 17-37 in their last 54 road games. Atlanta are 2-7 in their last 9 overall and are 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass while the over is 10-3-2 in the Braves last 15 games as a favorite. The under is 8-3-3 in the last 14 meetings in Atlanta and Miami are 26-54 in the last 80 meetings. Neither team has been great but Atlanta looks like they have a slight edge…
