Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs look to cool down the San Francisco Giants in Thursday action.
The Chicago Cubs are still in the Wild Card race but need to keep winning to remain in the conversation. The Cubs have lost three of four after a 7-5 defeat at PNC Park on Wednesday night. Newly acquired Dan Haren gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits including a pair of long balls over five frames with Travis Wood allowing two more. The Cubbies received eight hits and three walks with Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo both going deep and knocking in two each. San Francisco is hoping for a bounce back from Christopher Heston when he faces the Cubs for the first time. Heston absorbed a 9-7 loss at Texas in his last outing with three runs scored on seven hits in 4.2 frames.

The San Francisco Giants are keeping the pressure on the first place Dodgers in the National League West. The Giants stayed on a roll with a 6-1 victory at Atlanta Wednesday night for win number seven in a row. Ace Madison Bumgarner allowed the lone run on seven hits through 7.1 frames and struck out nine to get the win. The offense pounded out 12 hits and walked twice with Matt Duffy driving in two while Kelly Tomlinson went 2-4 and knocked in three runs. Veteran Jason Hammel will be shooting for back to back wins with the Giants in town. Hammel defeated the Brewers 4-1 on the road with the lone run plated on six hits over five innings pitched.
San Francisco are 15-5 in their last 20 overall and are 15-5 in their last 20 games on grass while going are 11-5 in their last 16 Thursday games. Chicago are 6-2 in their last 8 Thursday games and are 3-7 in their last 10 home games while the under is 33-16-4 in the Cubs last 53 home games. I will go with the hotter team and hope SF continues to score…
