The San Francisco Giants battle the Chicago Cubs in game three of their series at Wrigley Field.
The San Francisco Giants have been playing .500 baseball the past few weeks and that won’t be good enough to chase down the Dodgers in the National League West. The Giants took a step back once again in Friday’s 7-3 defeat at Wrigley Field where the bats and arms both struggled. Ryan Vogelsong gave up three runs over four frames before three relievers gave up five more runs. The Giants received eight hits with Norichika Aoki launching a solo homer while Hunter Pence and Brandon Crawford singled in runs. Matt Cain takes the mound against the Cubs Saturday for the first meeting since 2013. Cain has struggled the past two times out with eight runs plated on 18 hits over eleven innings.

The Chicago Cubs have been red hot of late as they try to solidify their position in the Wild Card race. The Cubs hot run continued with Friday’s victory for their 9th in eleven contests. Starter Jon Lester improved to 7-8 with two runs allowed on six hits through seven innings. The Cubbies pounded out 12 hits and walked twice with Dexter Fowler going solo and scoring twice while Kyle Schwarber knocked in two and scored two. Jorge Soler went 2-3 with a run and a pair of RBI’s as five players drove in runs and five scored. The Cubs send Kyle Hendricks to the hill to face San Francisco for the first time in his career. Hendricks comes off of a 4-2 victory at Milwaukee where he gave up a run on four hits in seven frames.
San Francisco are 16-6 in their last 22 overall and are 16-6 in their last 22 games on grass while the over is 32-14-5 in their last 51 road games. Chicago are 7-1 in their last 8 overall and are 7-1 in their last 8 games on grass while going 8-3 in their last 11 Saturday games. The under is 14-6-2 in the last 22 meetings while San Francisco are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Chicago. I’m not real confident in San Francisco right now but maybe something small on them as a dog…
