The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Sunday as they close out their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks just couldn’t get the bats going on Saturday as they lost at home to the Reds. David Peralta, Eder Inciarte, and A.J. Pollock all had hits as the Diamondbacks scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Robbie Ray allowed five hits and three runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-7 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Diamondbacks start Patrick Corbin who has allowed 29 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 30 over 29.1 innings for a 2-3 record and a 3.99 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds are just playing out the rest of the season but they played hard enough on Saturday to get the win in Arizona. Brandon Phillips, Marlon Byrd, and Eugenio Suarez each hit home runs as the Reds scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Keyvius Sampson allowed four hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get his first win and Aroldis Chapman earned his 24th save. For Sunday’s game the Reds start Anthony DeSciafani who has allowed 122 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 95 over 126 innings for a 7-7 record and a 3.71 ERA.
Arizona is 5-1 following a loss, 1-4 in their last five Sunday games, and 15-7 in Corbin’s last 22 starts against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 8-18 in their last 26 against the NL West, 4-1 in their last five games against a left-handed starter, and 1-4 in DeSciafani’s last five starts against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 5-1 in their last six games in Arizona.
The Reds seem to have the D-backs number and I don’t see that changing here so my pick is the Reds.
