The Houston Astros look to conclude their visit with the Oakland Athletics with a victory.
The Houston Astros can sometimes be a streaky team and it seems they are in a bit of a funk right now. The Astros funk continued in a 2-1 defeat at Oakland Saturday as the offense was unable to break loose. Starter Collin McHugh was charged with a pair of first inning runs but that was it over six innings while striking out eight. The Astros managed six hits and five walks with Preston Tucker’s 11th homer in the 4th accounting for the scoring. Mike Fiers makes his first start and second appearance for Houston since being traded by Milwaukee. Fiers struggled in a five inning relief stint versus the Rangers with six runs plated on seven hits and three BB.

The Oakland Athletics are not going to challenge in the American League West but they can be a nuisance to the teams that are. The Athletics have been just that with back to back victories versus the Astros. Starter Jesse Chavez was at his best with the lone run plated on six hits and four BB over seven innings to pick of the win. The A’s only had five hits and three walks but Danny Valencia provided all the scoring needed with a two run double in the first that scored Billy Burns and Coco Crisp.Right hander Chris Bassitt gets his first career start against the Astros on Sunday afternoon. Bassitt was outstanding last time out in a 5-0 win against the Orioles with seven scoreless innings.
The under is 11-2-1 in Houston’s last 14 road games while the Astros are 11-5 in their last 16 games as a favorite and 15-7 in their last 22 Sunday games. The under is 8-3-2 in Oakland’s last 13 games as a favorite and is 8-3 in their last 11 games as an underdog while going 17-7-3 in their last 27 home games. The Astros are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. I admit to not having a great feel for this one so I’ll take the better odds…
