The San Diego Padres continued their disappointing season as they fell to the Phillies on Saturday. Matt Kemp had two hits and Derek Norris and Justin Upton each had hits as the Padres scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed five hits and three runs while striking out eight over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-9 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 132 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 110 over 128 innings for a 4-11 record and a 4.08 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies go for the sweep of the Padres on Sunday in San Diego. Chase Utley, Cesar Hernandez, and Odubel Herrera each had two hits as the Phillies scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Adam Morgan allowed six hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-3 for the season and Kenneth Giles earned his fifth save. For Sunday’s game the Phillies start Jerome Williams who has allowed 123 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 52 over 85.2 innings for a 3-8 record and a 6.09 ERA.
The Padres are 3-12 in game three of a series, 2-6 in their last eight Sunday games, and 5-1 in Cashner’s last six starts as a favorite. Philadelphia is 16-5 in their last 21 games, 14-5 in their last 19 games as an underdog, and 1-8 in Williams’ last nine road starts. Philadelphia is 37-15 in the last 52 meetings of these two.
The Padres haven’t looked good of late but look for them to bounce back here to salvage a win in the series.
