The Los Angeles Angels are trying to chase down the Astros for the top spot in the American League West. The Angels picked up a game in the standings after downing Baltimore 5-4 in eleven innings Sunday for their 4th win in six games. Jered Weaver gave up a pair of runs over five innings before Cory Rasmus blew the save with two runs plated in an inning to squander a 4-2 lead. David Murpy swung the big bat with three hits with a homer and four RBI’s while Kole Calhoun drove in a run and scored. The Angels turn to a red hot Matt Shoemaker to the hill in the series opener with the White Sox. Shoemaker has been on a tear with three consecutive shutouts with ten hits and six walks allowed in 19 innings.

If the Chicago White Sox are going to make a run at a Wild Card the time is now to start that run. That run has yet to begin after a 5-4 loss at Kansas City was 8th in eleven contests. Starter Jose Quintana was charged with four runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings for a no decision with Jacob Petricka gave up an 8th inning run to absorb the loss. The offense consisted of six hits and a pair of walks with Alexei Ramirez slapping a two run single while Gordon Beckham drove in a run and scored. Left hander Chris Sale looks to right the ship from his recent struggles when he opposes the Angels on Monday. Sale has given up 14 runs on 18 hits over 10.1 innings covering two starts.
The over is 11-4 in the Angels last 15 road games while Los Angeles are 4-11 in their last 15 overall and 4-11 in their last 15 games on grass. The over is 13-3 in the White Sox last 16 overall while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 on grass andtheir 2-8 in their last 10 home games. The Angels are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and the over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. The way Shoemaker is throwing and with the potential of Sale to shut down anybody I’m going against the grain…
