The San Diego Padres head to Coors Field to battle the Colorado Rockies in NL West action.
The San Diego Padres seemed to be a team built to contend in the National League West but they are fighting just to reach .500. The Padres looked primed to sweep the Reds Wednesday but lost 7-3 and have now dropped seven of ten. Starter James Shields was charged with five runs on six hits and four free passes over 6.1 frames to fall to 8-5. The offense managed five hits and walked twice with Matt Kemp connecting on a three run homer that scored Yangervis Solarte and Yonder Alonso in the first inning. San Diego kicks off the series at Colorado with Tyson Ross on the hill. Ross was a tough luck 4-2 loser to visiting Philadelphia in his last outing with three runs plated on five hits in seven innings.

The Colorado Rockies need to find their offense which sounds strange for a team known for swinging the bats. The offense was silent once again Thursday and the work on the mound didn’t help in a 12-3 defeat at the Mets as the Rockies suffered the sweep. Starter Eddie Butler was charged with six runs on seven hits through four frames with Scott Oberg giving up three more in 1.1 innings and the deficit was quickly 9-3. The bats totaled just four hits and four bases on balls with DJ LeMathieu and Nolan Arenado smacking solo homers in the first. Yohan Flande makes his 4th start of the season against rival San Diego on Friday night. Flande did not receive a decision in a 6-4 win at Washington with three runs given up on three solo homers over 4.2 frames.
The over is 8-1 in San Diego’s last 9 road games and is 12-3 in their last 15 overall while going 12-3 in their last 15 on grass. Colorado are 12-25 in their last 37 Friday games and are 4-9 in Flande’s last 13 starts while going 4-9 in Flande’s last 13 starts on grass. San Diego are 2-7 in the last 9 meetings in Colorado and the under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Colorado. I don’t see an angle that strongly favors either team to be honest…
