The San Francisco Giants and the Washington Nationals face off on Friday in San Francisco for game two of their series.
The San Francisco Giants simply took care of what they needed to do on Thursday getting the win over the Nationals. Buster Posey had two hits and Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt each had hits as the Giants scored three runs on eight hits. Ryan Vogelsong allowed three hits and a run while striking out eight over 5.0 innings to get the win to raise his record to 8-8 while Santiago Casilla earned his 28th save. For Friday’s game the Giants start Matt Cain who has allowed 46 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 26 over 37 innings for a 2-3 record and a 5.59 ERA.

The Washington Nationals just never got the bats going on Thursday as they lost in San Francisco. Yunel Escobar hit a home run, Bryce Harper had two hits, and Michael Taylor had a hit as the Nationals scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-6 for the season. For Friday’s game the Nationals start Max Scherzer who has allowed 118 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 191 over 162 innings for an 11-8 record and a 2.44 ERA.
San Francisco is 10-2 in their last 12 home games, 24-8 in game two of a series, and 8-19 in Cain’s last 27 starts. Washington is 4-10 in their last 14 games, 1-6 in their last seven road games, and 8-2 in Scherzer’s last 10 starts as a road favorite. Washington is 5-3 in their last eight games in San Francisco.
Scoring should be tough in this one so my free pick is going to be a strong play on the under.
