The Houston Astros look to maintain their grip on first in the AL West with a win versus the Detroit Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers are in the unfamiliar role as spoilers as the American League Central has slipped away from them. The Tigers were perfect spoilers Saturday with a 4-3, eleven inning victory on Saturday night at Minute Maid Park. Justin Verlander looked like the pitcher of old with seven shutout innings with Bruce Rondon blowing the save in the 9th. The offense mustered nine hits and walked four times with four players driving in runs and four scoring. Rookie Matt Boyd gets his 5th start of the season when he takes the bump at Minute Maid Park. Boyd fell to the Royals 4-0 in his last outing with three runs plated on nine hits over 5.1 innings.

The Houston Astros are trying to get hot again after a slow couple of weeks. The Astros saw a modest two game winning streak come to an end with Saturday’s extra inning defeat which hurt because the Angels also lost. Starter Collin McHugh allowed a lone run through seven frames with Pat Neshak allowing all three runs in the 11th without recording an out. Preston Tucker connected on a 9th inning homer with Jed Lowrie driving in Carlos Correa in the 11th. Mike Fiers toes the rubber for his second start for Houston on Sunday afternoon. Fiers did not get a decision in a 5-4 loss to Oakland with a run allowed on five hits over 6.2 frames.
The over is 8-2 in Detroit’s last 10 Sunday games and is 34-15-2 in their last 51 on grass while going 33-15-3 in their last 51 overall. Houston are 38-14 in their last 52 home games and are 3-7 in their last 10 overall while going 3-7 in their last 10 games on grass. I’m not happy backing Fiers to be honest so I'll sit this out...
