The St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants face off on Tuesday at Busch Stadium for game two of their MLB series.
The St. Louis Cardinals once again were efficient offensively to sqeeze out a win in game one of their series against the Giants. Yadier Molina hit a home run, Stephen Petty had two hits, and Matt Carpenter had a hit as the Cardinals scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Michael Wacha allowed six hits and a run while striking out six over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Kevin Siegrist got the win to go to 4-0 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 37th save. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Lance Lyn who has allowed 124 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 137 over 128 innings for a 9-7 record and a 2.95 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants couldn’t solve Cardinals pitching on Monday as they took the loss. Brandon Crawford had two hits and Brandon Belt and Matt Duffy each had hits as the Giant scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Christopher Heston allowed four hits and a run while striking gout four over 4.2 innings to not get a decision as Hunter Strickland took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Giants start Ryan Vogelsong who has allowed 106 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 89 over 110.2 innings for an 8-8 record and a 4.15 ERA.
St. Louis is 7-1 against the NL West, 10-3 in their last 13 games, and 4-1 in Lynn’s last five starts against the NL West. San Francisco is 25-8 in game two of a series, 2-6 in their last eight games as an underdog, and 1-4 in Vogelsong’s last five starts. San Francisco is 5-2 in Vogelsong’s last seven starts against St. Louis.
This one is a tough call but just when the Giants seem to be reeling they always seem to come up with a strong game and this looks like one of those spots for them.
