The St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants face off on Wednesday at Busch Stadium for game three of their MLB series.
The St. Louis Cardinals were baffled at the plate on Tuesday as they lost to the Giants. Stephen Piscotty and Jhonny Peralta each had hits as the Cardinals didn’t score on two hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed four hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 9-8 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start Jaime Garcia who has allowed 49 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 52 over 74.1 innings for a 5-4 record and a 1.57 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants didn’t get a lot of offense on Tuesday but they got enough to get the win in St. Louis. Gregor Blanco, Brandon Crawford, and Matt Duffy each had hits as the Giants scored two runson six hits. Starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong allowed two hits and struck out five over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 9-8 for the season and Santiago Casilla earned his 29th save. For Thursday’s game the Giants start Matt Cain who has allowed 52 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 29 over 41.2 innings for a 2-3 record and a 6.05 ERA.
St. Louis is 6-2 against the NL West, 9-4 in their last 13 games, and 4-1 in Garcia’s last five starts as a favorite. San Francisco is 7-2 in game three of a series, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 12-26 in Cain’s last 38 starts. San Francisco is 0-5 in their last five road starts against the Cardinals.
The total in this one is at seven and after a quiet night on Tuesday the bats explode here so my pick is the over.
