The Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Thursday at Minute Maid Park as they closeout their MLB series.
It took the Houston Astros extra innings to get it done on Wednesday but they got the win over the Rays. Carlos Correa hit a home run and Jose Altuve and Jed Lowrie added two hits each as the Astros scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Josh Fields got the win. For Thursday’s game the Astros start Collin McHugh who has allowed 158 hits and 69 earned runs while striking out 123 over 152 innings for a 13-6 record and a 4.09 ERA.

The Tampa Bay Rays rallied to a late lead and couldn’t hold onto it as they lost in Houston on Wednesday. Brandon Guyer had three hits and Logan Forsythe and Tim Beckham had two hits each as the Rays scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Nathan Karns allowed six hits and a run while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Matt Andriese took the loss. For Thursday’s game the Rays start Chris Archer who has allowed 128 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 194 over 160 innings for a 10-9 record and a 2.92 ERA.
Houston is 5-1 against the AL East, 40-115 in their last 55 home games, and 20-9 in McHugh’s last 29 starts. Tampa Bay is 2-6 in their last eight games as an underdog, 1-6 in their last seven road games, and 10-3 in Archer’s last 13 starts as a road underdog. Tampa Bay is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings with Houston.
