Kauffman Stadium and the Kansas City Royals play host to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
The Baltimore Orioles have been struggling the past week or so and that hasn’t helped their playoff hopes. The Orioles took another step back in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota and have dropped five of six. Kevin Gausman gave up two runs over seven frames before Zach Britton blew the save with Brian Matusz taking the loss. The O’s racked 13 hits and walked three times with Jonathan Schoop going 3-6 with three run scoring singles while Gerardo Parra, Adam Jones and Steve Clevenger scored. Ubaldo Jimenez looks to get back in the win column when he faces Kansas City for the first time in 2015. Jimenez received a no decision in a 5-4 win versus the Mets with three runs allowed on five hits and four BB in five frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The Kansas City Royals are looking like the kings of the American League Central if they don’t fall off the map. The Royals have won consecutive contests after downing Boston 8-6 on the road. Starter Edinson Volquez was charged with all six runs on nine hits through 6.2 innings before the pen took over. KC pounded Boston pitching for 14 hits with Mike Moustakas going deep and driving in four while Eric Hosmer knocked in two and scored twice. Kris Medlen gets his first start since 2013 when he opposes the visiting Orioles on Monday night. Medlen has made seven relief appearances where he has gone 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA.
The under is 12-3-1 in Baltimore’s last 16 Monday games while the Orioles are 20-8 in their last 28 Monday games with the over is 5-2-1 in Jimenez’s last 8 starts on grass. Kansas City are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass while going 19-7 in their last 26 Monday games. The under is 13-5-1in the last 19 meetings. I don’t know what to expect from Medlen to be honest so take that for what it’s worth…
