The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for another win in south Florida against the Miami Marlins.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been winning and putting the pressure on St Louis in the National League Central. The Pirates stayed red hot with a 5-2 win at Miami on Monday for their 9th win in eleven contests. Newly acquired JA Happ picked up the win with six scoreless frames while the bats did their damage on eight hits and nine walks. Andrew McCutchen drove in a pair of runs and Starling Marte scored twice while Gregory Polanco went4-5 with an RBI and run. The Pirates send Charlie Morton to the hill to face the Marlins for the second time in 2015. Morton was at his best in a 4-0 win versus San Francisco with four hits and eight K’s over 6.2 frames.

The Miami Marlins have struggled to score runs at times and it has cost them in the win column. The runs didn’t come Monday and the Marlins fell for the 5th time in six outings. Starter Tom Koehler held his own with a pair of runs allowed on seven hits and four free passes through six frames with three relievers allowing a run each. The Fish mustered nine hits and walked once with JT Realmuto driving in both runs with Marcell Ozuna scoring twice. The Marlins are scheduled to start Brad Hand for the second time this year versus Pittsburgh. Hand was superb in a 9-7 win against Philadelphia with a run allowed on four hits in six innings.
Pittsburgh are 46-16 in their last 62 games as a favorite and are 56-26 in their last 82 overall while going 56-26 in their last 82 games on grass. The over is 16-5-1 in Miami’s last 22 overall and is 16-5-1 in their last 22 on grass while going 9-3 in their last 12 home games. Pittsburgh are 5-12 in the last 17 meetings in Miami and the under is 24-11-1 in the last 36 meetings. I’ll back the Pirates here but I think Hand is capable for what it’s worth…
