The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for consecutive wins at the Miami Marlins in Thursday action.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been on a roll and need to stay hot if they want to challenge the Cardinals in the National League Central. The Pirates stayed hot for another day in a 7-2 win at Miami on Wednesday for their 8th in eleven contests. Jeff Locke gave up both runs on five hits over seven frames to up his record to 7-8. Andrew McCutchen paced a nine hit, five walk attack with a homer and four RBI’s with Josh Harrison going 1-3 with two BB and a pair of runs. Ace Gerrit Cole toes the rubber versus the Marlins looking for back to back wins. Cole was solid in a 3-2 win against San Francisco with an unearned run plated on three hits over seven frames.

The Miami Marlins are trying to avoid the cellar in the National League East but have been struggling. The Marlins have dropped five of six following Wednesday’s defeat as neither the arms or bats were able to come through. Starter Chris Narveson allowed all seven runs on eight hits and a trio of free passes through 3.2 frames. The offense mustered five hits and a walk with Martin Prado going solo with JT Realmuto driving in Marcell Ozuna. Rookie Justin Nicolino makes his 6th start of the season and first against the Pirates on Thursday. Nicolino has thrown the ball well the past two times out with four runs allowed on eleven hits in 14.1 innings.
Pittsburgh are 47-17 in their last 64 games as a favorite and are 18-8 in their last 26 Thursday games while going 57-27 in their last 84 overall. The under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Miami and the Pirates are 6-13 in the last 19 meetings in Miami. I don’t know what we’ll see from Nicolino so I’m not in love with an unknown at high juice…
