Progressive Field and the Cleveland Indians open a series with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The Los Angeles Angels still have a shot at chasing down Houston in the American League West but they need to reverse their fortunes. The Angels had lost five of six before their pitching came to the rescue in a 2-0 victory versus the Tigers on Thursday afternoon. Starter Matt Shoemaker threw one of the best games of his career with a one hitter over 7.1 frames to improve his record to 6-9. The offense managed seven hits and walked three times with Albert Pujols driving in a run and scoring while Shane Victorino knocked in a run with Kole Calhoun scoring. Left hander Andrew Heaney faces the Indians for the first time in his career on Friday. Heaney looks to rebound from a 15-3 loss to Toronto where he gave up eight runs on seven hits in 3.1 frames.

The Cleveland Indians drive for .500 continues against the visiting Angels on Friday. The Indians have won five of seven after defeating Milwaukee 6-2 Thursday behind solid pitching and hitting. Starter Cody Anderson allowed both runs through 4.1 frames but five relievers stepped in and held the Brewers scoreless. The Tribe logged eleven hits and eight walks with Jason Kipnis going deep and driving in three while Lonnie Chisenhall drove in a run and scored. Danny Salazar opens the series on the mound versus the Angels who he sees for the second time in 2015. Salazar struggled last time out in a 6-2 loss at the Yankees with five runs plated on eight hits in 4.2 innings.
The Angels are 3-14 in their last 17 road games and are 8-3 in Heaney’s last 11 starts while going 8-3 in Heaney’s last 11 starts on grass. The over is 8-1 in Cleveland’s last 9 home games and the under is 11-2 in their last 13 Friday games while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 overall. Los Angeles are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and the under is 27-13-1 in the last 41 meetings. I’m leaning home team here and will update…
