The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Saturday as they continue their MLB series of National League West teams.
The San Diego Padres looked to be in the game on Friday against the Dodgers but they let it get away and took the loss. Jedd Gyorko, Matt Kemp, and Brett Wallace each hit home runs as the Padres scored four runs on four hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed three hits and three runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Marcos Mateo took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Dodgers start Tyson Ross who has allowed 149 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 176 over 165 innings for a 10-9 record and a 3.27 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers used the long ball on Friday to beat the Padres in San Diego. Carl Crawfird, Adrian Gonzalez, Chase Utley, Scott Schebler, and Justin Ruggiano each hit home runs as the Dodgers scored eight runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Michael Bolsinger allowed two hits and three runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 6-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Dodgers start Alex Wood who has allowed 35 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 28 over 35 innings for a 2-3 record and a 4.11 ERA.
San Diego is 2-6 in their last eight games as an underdog, 7-19 in game three of a series, and 4-0 in Ross’ last four starts. Los Angeles is 10-2 in their last 12 games, 5-1 in their last six road games, and 6-2 in their last eight games against a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 29-13 in their last 42 games against San Diego.
The Dodgers got the best of it Friday but look for the Padres to bounce back here and get the win behind Ross.
