The Chicago White Sox look to close out their series at Kauffman Stadium with a win against the Kansas City Royals.
The Chicago White Sox are going nowhere this season so they are in the role of spoiler. The White Sox have played that role perfectly with Saturday’s 6-1 win at Kansas City giving them back to back victories versus the Royals. Jose Quintana was dominant on the mound with seven scoreless innings. The offense logged eleven hits and walked three times with Geovany Soto cracking a solo homer while Alexei Ramirez went 2-4 with a homer and three RBI’s. Erik Johnson makes his first start since April of 2014 when he opposes the Royals on Sunday. Johnson made five starts in 2014 and went 1-1 with a 6.46 ERA covering 23.2 frames.

The Kansas City Royals have yet to wrap up the American League Central but they are heading in that direction. The Royals have dropped consecutive contests following Saturday’s defeat where not much went right on the mound or at the plate. Starter Danny Duffy did not have his best stuff with four runs given up on seven hits including a pair of long balls. KC posted ten hits with Alex Gordon logging three hits including a run scoring double that plated Lorenzo Cain. Kansas City sends Johnny Cueto to the hill for his 8th start as a Royal against the White Sox. In seven starts Cueto has logged a 2-4 record with a 4.21 ERA over 47 innings of work.
The over is 7-1 in Chicago’s last 8 road games and the White Sox are 3-9 in their last 12 games as an underdog while the over is 27-10 in their last 37 overall. The over is 8-1-2 in Kansas City’s last 11 on grass while the Royals are 8-2 in their last 10 Sunday games and 40-16 in their last 56 games as a favorite. Chicago are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Kansas City and are 7-21 in the last 28 meetings. Cueto has yet to help the Royals as they had hoped but will he finally get going is the question…
