The Los Angele Angels and the Texas Rangers face off on Sunday as they close out their MLB series of American League West teams.
The Loa Angeles Angels were tied for most of their game on Saturday but they let it get away as they lost to the Rangers. Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout, and Chris Ianetta each had hits as the Angels scored one run on three hits. Starting pitcher Jered Weaver allowed four hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Joe Smith took the loss. The Texas Rangers continued their drive towards the post season as they beat the Angels on Saturday. Mitch Moreland and Elvis Andrus each had two hits and Shin Soo-Choo added a hit as the Rangers scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Derek Holland allowed three hits and a run while striking out five over 8.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 3-1 and Shawn Tolleson earned his 29th save. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Colby Lewis who has allowed 171 hits and 85 earned runs while striking out 119 over 170 innings for a 14-7 record and a 4.50 ERA.
Los Angeles is 36-17 as a home favorite, 1-6 in their last seven home games, and 401 in Santiago’s last five starts as a home favorite. Texas is 8-2 in their last 10 home games, 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter, and 5-2 in Lewis’ last seven road starts. Texas is 9-22 in their last 31 meeting against Los Angeles.
With the public still not buying into Texas the Rangers is still where all of the value is these days and they are my pick here.
