The Tampa Bay Rays conclude their trip to the Big Apple with a Sunday tilt against the New York Yankees.
The Tampa Bay Rays appear to be on the outside looking in at the postseason unless something dramatic happens. The Rays avoided a three game skid with a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Starter Matt Moore gave up both runs on three hits and a pair of BB over 4.2 frames while the offense did their damage on six hits and seven walks. Asdrubal Cabrera drove in two runs with Kevin Kiermaier knocked in a run with a single. Tampa Bay sends Chris Archer to the hill on Sunday to face the Yankees for the third time in 2015. Archer was at his best in a 6-3 win at Baltimore last time out with six scoreless innings in a 6-3 win.

The New York Yankees are trying to chase down the Blue Jays in the American League East and have been playing well. The Yankees had won six of seven before Sunday’s defeat. Starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed all three runs on five hits and four free passes through 5.1 innings to absorb the loss. The Bronx Bombers managed five hits and walked five times with Brett Gardner and driving in a run while Didi Gregorius drove in a run and scored. The Yankees hand the ball to Ivan Nova for Sunday’s series ending start against the visiting Rays. Nova threw the ball well in a 4-3 loss at Boston with three runs plated on seven hits in six frames.
The over is 9-3 in Tampa Bay’s last 12 overall and the under is 7-3-3 in their last 13 Sunday games while the Rays are 14-4 in Archer’s last 18 starts on grass. The under is 8-2-1 in Nova’s last 11 starts overall and is 7-2-1 in Nova’s last 10 on grass. The under is 7-0-1 in Nova’s last 8 home starts vs. Tampa Bay while the Rays are 7-1 in Archer’s last 8 starts vs. New York. I’ll back Archer here but the Yankees are the far better squad…
