The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Sunday at Petco Park as they close out their MLB series of National League West teams.
The Padres just failed to generate much offense on Saturday as they once again fell to the Dodgers. Matt Kemp had two hits and Yangervis Solarte had a hit as the Padres didn’t score on three hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed five hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 10-10 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 168 hits and 72 earned runs while striking out 134 over 156 innings for a 5-13 record and a 4.15 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t get a lot of offense on Saturday but they didn’t need it as they beat the Padres. Andre Ethier had three hits and Chase Utley and Carl Crawford each had two hits as the Dodgers scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Alex Wood allowed three hits and struck out four over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 10-9 for the season and Kenley Jansen earned his 29th save. For Sunday’s game the Dodgers start Brett Anderson who has allowed 159 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 100 over 152.1 innings for an 8-8 record and a 3.43 ERA.
San Diego is 2-5 in their last seven games as an underdog, 1-4 in their last five Sunday games, and 3-8 in Cashner’s last 11 home starts. Los Angeles is 10-2 in their last 12 games, 4-1 as a road favorite, and 4-1 in Anderson’s last five starts as a favorite. Los Angeles is 29-13 in the last 41 meetings with San Diego.
There just hasn’t been a lot of scoring this series and I don’t expect that to change here so my pick is going to be Under the total.
