The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds continue their series at Great American Ball Park.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been stumbling and need to right the ship before it’s too late. The Pirates took a step in the right direction with a 7-3 win at Great American Ball Park Tuesday. Francisco Liriano was at his best with ten strikeouts over six shutout frames to up his record to 10-7. Andrew McCutchen paced an eleven hit attack with a three run homer while Jung-ho Kang went solo and scored two times.Left hander JA Happ makes his first start of the year against Cincinnati on Wednesday. Happ is coming in off of a 9-3 win at St Louis where he tossed seven shutout innings.

The Cincinnati Reds are rebuilding although many of the same faces remain the same. The Reds had a three game winning streak in their sights Tuesday but it wasn’t meant to be with both the work on the mound and at the plate falling short. Rookie Raisel Iglasias was charged with five runs on six hits through three innings to fall to 3-7. The bats struggled to do anything until the 9th where Eugenio Suarez drove in two while Skip Schumaker doubled in a run and scored. Cincinnati is scheduled to send rookie Keyvius Sampson to the mound to oppose the Pirates for the second time. Sampson dropped a 7-3 decision to the Brewers with three runs plated on five hits in three frames.
Pittsburgh are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass while going 10-4 in their last 14 Wednesday games. Cincinnati are 3-13 in their last 16 home games and are 4-12 in their last 16 games as an underdog while going 9-23 in their last 32 overall. The Pirates are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Cincinnati and are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings. I think we might see the Pirates go on another run so I’ll back them…
