The St Louis Cardinals kick off a series with the rival Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night.
The St Louis Cardinals are still leading the National League Central despite not playing well. The Cardinals had dropped five of six before knocking off the visiting Cubs 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Carlos Martinez allowed all three runs on ten hits over five frames before four relievers held the Cubs off the scoreboard. The Redbirds did their damage on five hits and a trio of walks with Stephen Piscotty knocking in two while Matt Carpenter recorded an RBI and scored twice. Left hander Jaime Garcia gets the call to the mound to face Cincinnati for the second time. Garcia defeated Pittsburgh 4-1 last time out with seven scoreless innings while striking out nine.

Rookie John Lamb opposes the Cardinals for the first time in his young career. Lamb looks to bounce back from an 8-6 loss to the Brewers where he allowed six runs on nine hits in 5.2 frames.
