The Philadelphia Phillies open a series with the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park on Friday.
The Chicago Cubs are looking to lock up a Wild Card berth and they haven’t been hurting their chances. The Cubs saw a five game winning streak end with a 4-3 loss at St Louis on Wednesday. Starter Jon Lester gave up a run on two hits over seven frames before Pedro Strop allowed two while Clayton Richard gave up one to get the loss. The Cubs pounded out eleven hits with Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo and Tommy La Stella driving in runs. The Cubs send a scorching hot Jake Arrieta to the bump to oppose the Phillies for the second time in 2015. Arrieta is a frontrunner for the Cy Young award and has not allowed a run in six of his last seven outings.

The Philadelphia Phillies are playing 2015 with an eye on next season with plenty of new faces. The Phillies never got their arms and bats going Wednesday in Wednesday’s 8-1 defeat at the hands of visiting Atlanta. Starter David Buchanan was hit hard with four runs plated on ten hits through 3.1 frames before Kenneth Roberts and Nefi Ogando allowing a combined five runs. The Phils never got going at the plate with Cody Asche driving in Darnell Sweeney with the lone run. Philadelphia is slated to start rookie Adam Morgan to the hill for his first career meeting with the Cubs. Morgan struggled the last time out in a 7-5 loss at Boston with six runs plated over 6.1 frames.
Chicago are 28-11 in their last 39 overall and are 28-11 in their last 39 games on grass while going 13-3 in Arrieta’s last 16 road starts. Philadelphia are 3-14 in their last 17 Thursday games while the over is 25-10-2 in their last 37 Thursday games while going 10-4-1 in their last 15 overall. The under is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings. Asher looks like he is getting the start for the Phils so I’ll go with the Cubs…
