The Colorado Rockies travel to Safeco Field for an interleague tilt with the Seattle Mariners.
The Colorado Rockies seem to have run out of gas the past week and need a boost. The Rockies had lost four of five before downing San Diego 4-3 on the road Thursday. Starter Jorge De La Rosa gave up all three runs on six hits and a trio of walks over five frames before four relievers shutdown the Padres. The Rockies did all their damage on homers with Corey Dickerson, Carlos Gonzalez, Daniel Descalso and Nolan Arenado going solo. The Rockies are slated to start Chad Bettis for the first time ever against the Mariners. Bettis has struggled the past two times out with eight runs plated on 19 hits over 10.1 frames.

The Seattle Mariners drive to reach .500 continues and is doable with a strong finish. The Mariners have won seven of eleven after stopping the Rangers 5-0 behind Felix Hernandez. Hernandez upped his record to 17-8 with eight scoreless innings. The offense didn’t waste the effort with a nine hit, two walk attack doing more then enough. Nelson Cruz cracked a long ball and drove in two and scored twice wile Mark Trumbo drove in a pair. Hisashi Iwakuma toes the rubber versus the Rockies for the first time in his career. Iwakuma was at his best in a 3-2 win at Oakland with a run given up on five hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
Colorado are 17-56 in their last 73 interleague game and are 32-81 in their last 113 road games while going 6-13 in their last 19 Friday. games. The over is 22-6-2 in Seattle’s last 30 home games while the Mariners are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass. The under is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings. Iwakuma is winning and I’ll back him here…
