The Los Angele Angels and the Houston Astros face off on Saturday in game two of their MLB series on American League West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels have had a rough go of it the second half of the season but even so they are still very much in the American League Wildcard race and still have a shot at the AL West title. The Angels had the lead in the AL West this season and went back and forth the Astros but then they fell back to third place in the standings behind the Rangers. Mike Trout is the probable MVP in the AL this season and is the best player in the game hitting the long ball, showing speed, and having one of the best gloves. Albert Pujols is having his best season in years with 35 home runs, Kole Calhoun has emerged as a star, and Erck Aybar has been clutch at times. For Saturday’s game the Angels start Hector Santiago who finally won last time out after losing his previous five decisions.

The Houston Astros have turned around years of frustration and could be headed to the post-season. The Astros lead the AL West and control their own destiny with 21 games left. Jose Altuve has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Astros as their best player and clutch hitter. Carlos Gomez is hitting just .239 but he does add another bat to the lineup and Carlos Correa has been a solid contributor. The Astros pitching staff has delivered keeping them in games and giving them a chance to win, something they have taken advantage of often. For Saturday’s game the Astros start lance McCullers who is 5-5 with a 3.07 ERA but he has lost his last two decisions.
Los Angeles is 4-1 against the AL West, 3-7 in their last 10 home games, and 1-5 in Santiago’s last six starts. Houston is 16-37 in their last 53 road games, 3-11 in Saturday games, and 0-7 in McCullers last seven road starts. Houston is 4-12 in their last 16 games in Los Angeles.
The Astros came up short on Friday and I don’t see them faring any better here.
