The Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros face off on Sunday in Anaheim as they close out their series of American League West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels continued to keep their American League Wildcard hopes alive as they beat the Astros on Saturday. C.J. Cron hit a home run and Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar each had two hits as the Angels scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Hector Santiago allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Joe Smith Got the win to raise his record to 5-5 and Huston Street earned his 35th save. For Sunday’s game the Angels start Andrew Heaney who has allowed 81 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 62 over 84.1 innings for a 6-3 record and a 3.52 ERA.

The Houston Astros are wavering but they continue to lead the AL West even though they lost again on Saturday. Carlos Correa and Hank Conger each hit home runs and Jose Altuve had two hits as the Astros scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Lance McCullers allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out one over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Will Harris took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Astros start Mike Fiers who has allowed 25 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 35 over 37 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.92 ERA since being traded to Houston.
Los Angeles is 6-1 against the AL West, 4-1 in game three of a series, and 6-2 in Heaney’s last eight home starts. Houston is 6-2 in game three of a series, 16-39 in their last 55 road games, and 1-6 in their last seven games against the AL West. Houston is 1-5 in their last six games in Los Angeles.
Heaney has not pitched well recently so I look for the Astros to salvage a win here.
