The Chicago Cubs will battle the Pittsburgh Pirates in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday.
The Chicago Cubs are looking to take over second in the National League Central and snap a two game skid after falling to the Phillies 7-4 on Sunday. Starter Dan Haren gave up four runs on seven hits to drop to 3-2 while Clayton Richard and CJ Edwards allowed three more. The Cubbies could not keep up on eight hits and two walks that featured a solo homer off the bat of Chris Coghlan who also scored twice on a 4-5 afternoon at the plate. The Cubs send Jason Hammel to the mound in game one of their twin bill at PNC Park. Altogether Hammel has gone 8-6 with a 3.59 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in 27 starts thus far.

The Pittsburgh Pirate have been playing well as the try to hold on to second in the Central and possibly overtake the first place Cardinals. The Pirates have won seven of ten after downing Milwaukee 7-6 Sunday. The Buccos pen tossed 7.2 scoreless frames after starter Francisco Liriano was charged with five runs on seven hits and a pair of BB through 2.1 innings. The offense did their damage on ten hits and three bases on balls with Pedro Alvarez going deep and scoring twice while Travis Snider ripped a two run double. Staff ace Gerrit Cole toes the rubber in game one of their doubleheader versus the visiting Cubs on Tuesday afternoon. Cole has gone 16-8 overall with a sparkling 2.54 ERA over 28 starts.
The over is 6-1-1 in Chicago’s last 8 overall and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass while going 8-2 in their last 10 Tuesday games. Pittsburgh are 40-13 in their last 53 home games and are 21-5 in Coles’ last 26 home starts while going 40-17 in Coles last 57 starts. I think Cole at home is the way I would go here…
