The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres face off on Wednesday at Chase Field as they continue their MLB series of National League West teams.
The Arizona Diamondbacks trailed early against the Padres but they rallied late to get the win. A.J. Pollock hit a home run and Ender Inciarte and Wellington Castillo each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed four hits and two runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Randall Delgado got the win and Brad Ziegler earned his 26th save. For Wednesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Robbie Ray who has allowed 99 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 97 over 106.2 innings for a 4-11 record and a 3.54 ERA.

The San Diego Padres were unable to hold onto their lead on Tuesday as they lost in Arizona. Justin Upton had three hits including a home run and Yangervis Solarte and Jedd Gyorko each had hits as the Padres scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed four hits and a run while striking out nine over 6.0 innings but his effort was squandered as Bud Norris took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 182 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 146 over 166.2 innings for a 5-15 record and a 4.27 ERA.
Arizona is 4-8 in their last 12 games, 5-11 in their last 16 home games, and 1-7 in Ray’s last eight starts. San Diego is 2-7 in their last nine road games, 1-5 in their last six games, and 0-4 in Cashner’s last four starts. San Diego is 1-6 in Cashner’s last seven starts against Arizona.
I don’t love this one but I give a light edge to Arizona at home.
