The St Louis Cardinals look to extend their lead in the Central with a road win versus the Chicago Cubs.
The St Louis Cardinals might be the best team in the game but they still yet to wrap up the division. The Cardinals absorbed an 8-3 defeat at Wrigley Field on Friday that snapped a four game winning streak. Starter Lance Lynn gave up three runs on four hits and six BB over 3.1 frames with Seth Maness and Steve Cischek allowing five runs. The Redbirds totaled five hits and three walks with Thomas Pham and Tony Cruz driving in runs while Kolten Wong drove in a run and scored. The Cardinals send Michael Wacha to the hill for game two of the series at Wrigley Field. Wacha has been a strong member of the rotation with a 16-5 record and a 2.96 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs are one of the frontrunners for on off the Wild Cards but they still have hopes of capturing the Central. The Cubs had everything go their way in the series opener for their 4th straight win while picking up a game in the standings. Starter Dan Haren gave up all three runs through 4.1 innings before six relievers kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard. Starlin Castro paced Chicago with a pair of long balls with six RBI’s and two runs while Miguel Montero scored twice. The Cubs hand the ball to right hander Jason Hammel to control the St Louis offense on Saturday. Overall Hammel has gone 8-6 over 28 starts with a 1.15 whip and 3.73 ERA.
