The Texas Rangers hope to make up ground in the standings with a win versus the Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners had made changes to their roster to become a factor in the West but more are needed. The Mariners had just enough in Friday’s 3-1 win at surging Texas. Pitching was center stage in this one with starter James Paxton allowing a run on six hits and four BB over 4.1 frames with five relievers putting up zeros. The M’s totaled ten hits with Ketel Marte going 2-4 wit two RBI’s and a run while Kyle Seager went 2-4 with an RBI. Left hander Vidkal Nuno makes his second consecutive start against the surging Rangers. Nuno dominated Texas 6-0 with a one hit shutout over seven innings while whiffing ten.

The Texas Rangers have really been putting the pressure on Houston in the American League West. The Rangers cooled off for a night with Friday’s defeat but the Rangers have still won seven of eleven. Starter Yovani Gallardo was charged with all three runs on eight hits and a pair of free passes through five innings to drop to 12-11. The offense had some opportunities on six hits and five walks with Prince Fielder driving in Delino DeShields Jr. with the lone run. Cole Hamels hopes to stay on a roll when he opposes the Mariners in game two of their series. Hamels defeat Houston 5-3 last time out with all three runs scored on seven hits in seven frames.
The over is 7-1 in Seattle’s last 8 road games while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 overall and is 5-2-1 in their last 8 on grass. Texas are 22-5 in their last 27 home games. The under is 20-7-1 in the last 28 meetings and is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings in Texas. I’m going with a still hot Texas squad that needs this one…
