The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres face off on Sunday at Coors Field as they close out their series of National League West teams.
The Colorado Rockies took out the big bats on Saturday as they pounded the Rockies to get the win. Tom Murphy hit a home run, Charlie Blackmon had three hits, and Nolan Arenado and WIlin Rosario each had two hits as the Rockies scored 10 runs on 18 hits. Starting pitcher Yohan Flande allowed four hits and run lasting just 2.2 innings as Christian Bergman got the win. The San Diego Padres fell behind early on Saturday and never were close as they lost big to the Rockies. Jedd Gyorko hit a home run, WIl Myers had two hits, and Justin Upton had a hit as Padres scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Robbie Erlin allowed nine hits and seven runs while striking out two over 3.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Padres start James Shields who has allowed 178 hits and 80 earned runs while striking out 200 over 189.1 innings for 12-6 record and a 3.80 ERA.
Colorado is 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games, 5-1 against a team with a losing record, and 6-14 in Kendrick’s last 20 starts. San Diego is 3-9 in their last 12 road games, 2-7 in their last nine games, and 3-7 in Shields’ last 10 road starts. San Diego is 9-5 in their last 14 games against Colorado.
The Padres haven’t been playing well but I still have them with an edge here making them the play.
