The Houston Astros shoot for another win against the rival Oakland Athletics in Sunday action.
The Oakland Athletics will need to make some changes in the offseason in order to make a return to the postseason. The Athletics had a chance to further damage the Astros postseason hopes but the pitching faltered in a 10-6 defeat. Starter Sonny Gray gave up five runs over 5.1 frames with Fernando Rodriguez and Dan Oter allowing five runs. Jake Smolinski paced a ten hit attack with a homer, two RBI’s and a pair of runs while Marcus Semien homered and scored two times. The Athletics are scheduled to send Aaron Brooks to the bump to control the Astros attack. On the season Brooks has gone 2-3 with a 1.63 WHIP and 7.68 ERA over seven outings.

Evan Gattis swung the big bat with a homer and three RBI’s with Max Stassi went solo. The Astros turn to Collin McHugh for a crucial start against the visiting Athletics with the playoffs hanging in the balance. McHugh is 16-7 despite a rather high 4.05 ERA.
The over is 17-7-1 in Oakland’s last 25 overall and is 17-7-1 in their last 25 on grass while Oakland are 8-18 in their last 26 road games. Houston are 40-16 in their last 56 home games and are 16-5 in McHugh’s last 21 home starts while going 23-9 in McHugh’s last 32 starts on Grass. The Astros are fighting for their postseason lives and we’ll see just how clutch they are…
